Nissan has reached a major milestone in its electric vehicle journey after delivering its 100,000th EV to a customer in the UK.
The landmark vehicle was an All-New Nissan MICRA, finished in Rebel Red, and was handed over to its new owners at a Nissan dealership in Chorley, Lancashire.
This achievement marks 15 years of Nissan electric vehicle innovation in the UK, beginning with the launch of the original Nissan LEAF in 2011.
The Nissan LEAF was one of the first mass-market electric vehicles available to UK drivers and helped make electric motoring more accessible.
Since then, Nissan has continued to expand and improve its electric range.
Today, the line-up includes the All-New Nissan MICRA, the third-generation Nissan LEAF and the updated Nissan ARIYA, alongside electric commercial vehicles such as the Townstar EV and Interstar-e.
The latest Nissan MICRA has been reimagined as a fully electric hatchback, offering sporty styling, modern technology and a practical driving range for everyday journeys.
The third-generation Nissan LEAF continues the story of the original model and is engineered and built in Britain. It has already been named Auto Express Car of the Year 2026 and is due to arrive in showrooms later this summer.
The updated Nissan ARIYA also strengthens the range, combining premium comfort, advanced technology and impressive electric range.
The 100,000th electric Nissan was purchased by Ron and Gillian Ainsworth, who had no idea their new MICRA would become part of Nissan’s history.
The All-New MICRA is their first electric vehicle, and they praised its comfort, spacious interior, design and smooth driving experience.
Their handover highlights the growing number of customers choosing electric vehicles for the first time.
Nissan’s electric range is set to grow even further.
Future plans include the introduction of the first fully electric Nissan JUKE, which will be manufactured alongside the new LEAF at Nissan’s Sunderland plant.
Nissan is also planning an additional compact electric model designed for city driving.
These vehicles form part of Nissan’s EV36Zero project, which aims to transform the Sunderland plant into a leading electric vehicle manufacturing hub, bringing together electric vehicle production, battery manufacturing and renewable energy.
