What is Motability?

If you are receiving the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, then you can use the Motability Scheme to get a new car, that is affordable for you.

Who Qualifies?

To join the Motability Scheme, you must receive one of the following allowances:

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

You will need to have at least 12 months remaining on your allowance when you apply.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for disabled people between the ages of 16 and 64, even those with an "indefinite" or "lifetime" award. Disabled children will continue to receive DLA until they reach the age of 16. DLA will also continue to be available for those who were aged 65 or over on 8 April 2013 (20 June 2016 in Northern Ireland).
