What is Motability?

If you are receiving the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, then you can use the Motability Scheme to get a new car, that is affordable for you.

Who Qualifies?

To join the Motability Scheme, you must receive one of the following allowances:

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

You will need to have at least 12 months remaining on your allowance when you apply.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is replacing Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for disabled people between the ages of 16 and 64, even those with an "indefinite" or "lifetime" award. Disabled children will continue to receive DLA until they reach the age of 16. DLA will also continue to be available for those who were aged 65 or over on 8 April 2013 (20 June 2016 in Northern Ireland).

Terms and Conditions

To qualify for the Motability Scheme, you must be in receipt of the Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance, the Enhanced Rate of Mobility Component of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP), War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement or the Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP). Applications must be received and accepted by Motability Operations up to 30th June 2021. Offers may be withdrawn at any time and are subject to availability. Not available in conjunction with any other offer. Motability vehicles available at a fixed weekly cost for the duration of your 3-year lease agreement. Where your weekly costs are less than your Motability total allowance, the difference will be paid directly to you by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) or Veterans UK depending on which allowance you receive. Motability customers agree to pay all or part of the Motability Allowance (DLA, PIP, AFIP or WPMS) depending upon the vehicle chosen for the duration of the 3-year lease agreement.
